Tea Party Delicious!!
Kathie (Philadelphia, PA) 1/8/2009 6:07 PM
These remind me of what every little girl would love to serve at a tea an adult we can indulge ourselves...My grandmother who had grown up in Scotland loves to recieve these lil tastes of home on the holidays..she serves them with a cuppa and treats herself and all of us to slices...they are wonderful when you slice them into 3 or 4 slices per bar..they go further and extends the pleasure before buying more from Goodwoods..they are our all time favorite treats!
Mr Kipling does make Exceedingly good cakes

The cakes themselves are around 2.5 inches long and smell gorgeous (well, they do if you like marzipan). The outside is a thin layer of marzipan dusted with a light coating of sugar. Personally, I’d prefer the marzipan to be a bit thicker but that’s just because I’m a bit of an Almond- taste fiend. On biting into them mmmmm this is always the best part, I find the marzipan taste is very good, followed by the sponge texture, which is light and fluffy, and not too dry, I can taste the apricot jam that’s serving its purpose of keeping the cake together.

I love these. They remind me of when I was a little girl and Mummy used to give my sister and I a slice when we came home from school. I love the mini Battenburgs, when my order arrives, I put them in the fridge. When I eat them I like them cold (hence the fridge), I then like to trim away all the marzipan, cut the sponge into slices which I then share with the dog and eat the marzipan at the end, afterall everyone likes to leave the best part till last!!
Chess Anyone?

There is nothing I like more, than a nice cup of tea at elevenses and a nice bit of cake to help the tea along. One of my particular favourites is Battenberg Cake. The attracting colours always drew me in as a child and I have never looked back. The name of Battenberg is taken from the German Royal Family back at the beginning of the 19th centaury. The squares that make up the cake are said to be representative of the four Battenberg princes. The cake to me looks like the makings of a chessboard but with pink and creamy tiles. Once you have cut a slab (or slice), you can really see the fully effect of the patterned cake. Taking the cake out of the cellophane wrapper, the smell from the marzipan is fairly strong and you can really smell the almonds that the marzipan is made from. The soft cakes pieces are held together with apricot jam and this gives the moist cake even more flavour. The sponge is fresh and light, I can't taste any difference in flavours between the yellow colour sponge and the pink colour sponge. The flavour of the sponge itself is without a doubt a great tasting sponge. it seems so light and fresh that the cake just seems to melt away in the mouth. The jam is fruity and flavoursome and the Apricot seems to work well with both the soft sponge centre and the outer layer of marzipan
Mini size, maximum delight!

These sweet little cakes are delicious. If you have a granddaughter or small daughter who likes tea parties try slicing them up (about 5 slices in each)-delightful. Yet another Kipling success - then again I do not think I have yet met a Kipling cake I didn't like!
