How to Cook Ready to Bake Goodwoods Lancashire Meat and Potato Pie
Oven cook from Frozen – Preheat oven to 200°C. Remove the pie from its packaging and place it on a baking tray covered in foil. Cook at 180°C for 30 – 35 minutes.
Recipe Idea– British Style Mushy Peas
Creamy mushy peas go extremely well with Meat and Potato pies.
Ingredients
- 9 ounces dried marrowfat peas (there is no substitute for marrowfat peas if you want the mushy peas to have perfect flavour and texture)
- 2 teaspoons baking soda
- 3 cups water
- Boiling water as required
- 1 teaspoon salt
Preparation
- Add the baking soda to the boiling water and dissolve it. Take a bowl and place the marrowfat peas in it and slowly pour the boiling water till they are covered at least 3 inches above in water. Leave the peas to soak in this water for 12 hours.
- Drain the peas and rinse them. Add 3 cups of water to a pot and add the peas to it. Let the water come to a boil and then reduce the heat to medium to low. Cook for about 30 minutes and keep stirring in occasionally till the peas have broken completely. Now add the salt.
- If the peas require more time to cook or they are still runny, then continue to cook till it thickens. If required, add some more water and a little more salt to get the desired consistency and taste.
- Serve with meat and potato pie! If you are saving the mushy peas for the next day, then reheat them by adding a little water.
