Quintessentially English and from Cornwall and Devon in particular, clotted cream has been a cottage industry in England’s West Country for centuries.
With a thick creamy consistency and a rich, sweet flavour, clotted cream is the essential ingredient for the perfect English afternoon tea.
Enjoyed on top of a fresh, warm scone, with a helping of strawberry jam, it truly is one of our finest pleasures.

I'd read about it for years and finally got a jar to try it out. It smelled like plain refrigerator cheesecake and spread like faintly curdled dry cream cheese. It also looked like faintly curdled cream cheese and made me hesitate. However, once it was on a hot scone it turned into the texture of stiff whipped cream and really did taste like a cross between whipped cream and a whipped butter with a little more mouthfeel. It's different but good.
