Recipe Idea

British style minced beef and onion Pie

  • olive oil- 1 tbsp
  • finely sliced 1 large onion
  • 500g beef mince
  • 1 garlic clove, crushed
  • 200ml beef stock
  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp plain flour
  • 1 tbsp dark soy sauce
  • 1 medium free-range egg

For the pastry

  • Plain flour- 200g ( can have some extra to dust)
  • Cold unsalted butter, diced- 100g
  • Medium free-range egg, lightly beaten- 1 piece
  • Apple cider vinegar- 1 tsp
  • ½ tsp salt

Procedure to make it

  • Step 1- Mix flour, salt, and butter in a bowl and add beaten egg, vinegar, and ice water to the mixture. The mixture will now come together into a ball. Wrap and let it set in the fridge for around 30 minutes.

  • Step 2 - Heat the oil in a pan and add sliced onion. Cook it over medium heat for 5 minutes, followed by adding garlic and minced beef and cooking it for another 5 minutes.

  • Step 3- Add the beef stock, soy sauce, and Worcestershire sauce and cook until it thickens.  Set aside to cool.

  • Step 4 - To make the pastry, heat the oven to 200°C/180°C fan/gas 6. Roll out the pastry on a floured surface and prepare the tin/dish. Pour the cooled filling into the dish and roll out the remaining pastry from the lid.

  • Step 5- Brush the beaten egg on the edges and cook the pie for 30-40 minutes until it gets golden. Make sure to leave it to set for 2 minutes.

  • Step 6 - Serve hot.
