What is Relish?

What is Relish

Henry Henderson is credited for the famous Henderson Relish, which he first mixed in 1885. Although it was not a proper factory, the production was done in Sheffield, South Yorkshire. The sauce bears resemblance to Worcestershire sauce but tastes quite different and doesn't have any anchovies. The base of the sauce is made with caramel, spirit vinegar, acetic acid, sugar, and saccharin. It also has cayenne pepper, tamarind, cloves, and garlic oil. The sauce is gluten-free and has been approved by the Vegetarian Society to be a vegetarian sauce, making it perfect for vegans. The condiment can be added to different foods for a tangy flavour, such as – stews, pies, meats, or other vegetarian meals.

There are many other brands, such as Heinz, Wickles, etc., that produce Relish. Every brand offers something different in terms of taste and flavour. Henderson’s Relish has a dedicated fan following who love this condiment for its unique taste and local significance.
